This morning we departed early for our most culturual experience yet ~ a day at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. We arrived late at 10am, only to discover that the park only opens at 10am - we were very happy that we didn`t show up earlier. It was raining quite hard, and while this would have made us turn around in Ontario, we joined the locals, dawned our umbrellas, and made our way into the park. We rode rides, saw shows, and ate treats. Steve was subjected to a musical experience during the showing of *Wicked*. Laura - Jess isn`t sure if the Broadway version in Toronto will compare. The use of English in the production was especially interesting. One song was

entirely in Japanese but the chorus catch-phrase was the word *popular* - I`m not sure if many of the locals even knew what the song was about. At other times, entire versus would be sung in English with japanese translations on screens to the sides of the stage. We overcame the rain and note that we hardly noticed it given the many rides that got us very wet anyways!!! Overall, it was a great day.

We returned to Kyoto and had an AMAZING sushi dinner (our first in Japan) at a very traditional restaurant. We got home around 7+30pm, attempted to watch a movie on our big screen, and passed out before 9pm!
